Fucsovics parte subito forte, strappando due volte il servizio all’italiano e chiudendo 6-4, risultato che si ripete nel secondo parziale: dopo un break per parte, l’ungherese passa dal 4-4 al 6-4 che gli regala il doppio vantaggio. A quel punto, però, Sinner cambia completamente registro e, nei successivi tre set, concede appena tre game: il terzo finisce 6-2 dopo due break ma anche un lungo settimo game con quattro palle break annullate.
L’altoatesino pareggia il conto dei set passando dallo 0-2 al 6-2 del quarto parziale e, infine, domina il quinto, chiuso con un netto 6-0 al primo match point. Sinner vola così agli ottavi di finale, dove affronterà Stefanos Tsitsipas, che si impone 6-2, 7-6(5), 6-3 sull’olandese Griekspoor. In palio, i quarti di finale degli Australian Open.
