Nell’altra sfida del girone, la vittoria della Svizzera sancisce la retrocessione della Repubblica Ceca, che viene sconfitta 2-1 a San Gallo. Partono meglio gli ospiti, ma Sommer è come sempre decisivo per le sorti elvetiche. La sfida viene svoltata dall’uno-due della Svizzera, che segna al 29′ e al 30′: vantaggio di Freuler e raddoppio di Embolo, che approfitta dell’errore ceco sul calcio d’inizio per siglare il 2-0. I cechi reagiscono, centrando un palo e una traversa, ma rischiano nella ripresa: Stanek, subentrato all’infortunato Vaclik, salva su Embolo. Repubblica Ceca ancora viva dunque, ma gli ospiti sprecano al 60′: Soucek si impone per calciare il rigore, concesso per un fallo di Elvedi, ma se lo fa parare da Sommer. Si resta dunque sul 2-1 per la Svizzera, che rischia nel finale: Jemelka centra il palo, la sfera attraversa tutta la linea di porta e viene fermata provvidenzialmente da Sommer. Vittoria elvetica dunque, mentre la Repubblica Ceca retrocede in Lega B: a Schick e compagni sarebbe servita una vittoria, pesa come un macigno l’errore di Soucek dal dischetto.
